The Kelsey racing team is very excited as the start to the 2008 season has finally come around. Last week on Sunday, Seymour held it’s car show and practice session.
The weather worked out well and there was a great turn out for the car show and for race practice. The 2008 Kelsey racing machine took 2nd place in it’s class for the car show! A special thank you goes out to Quartz Graffix and the great job they did with the vinyl work on the car this year!
Practice started out "ok" for the #65 machine. On the first run, Bill had reported some "Popping" coming from the motor, but ran the 5 laps allowed and transfered some good info to the team on the handeling of the car.
Back in the pits, the crew tuned the car with a couple air pressure changes and a new set of spark plugs. Bill would return to the track for another test run. The good news from the start of the second run, the Popping was gone. Around the 3rd lap of the practice run, the car had a spurt of power which threw Bill off a little. This caused Bill to loose control of the car and do a half spin in corner’s 1 and 2. After getting it going in the correct direction, it was hammer down to finish out the next couple laps and tune some more on the car.
Coming out of turn number 4 on the very same lap, the #65 machine went up in a large billiow of white smoke, as the motor exploded with parts and pieces going out the back of the motor and the test session came to an early end. This explained the sudden burst in extra power, as Bill thinks that is when the motor started to let go.
This was the 2nd year in a row the team had lost a motor in practice, but a different motor is in and ready to go for tonights opening night. The races start at 6PM sharp at the Seymour Fairgournds, in Seymour Wisconson and it appears to be a perfect day/night for racing at the Seymour Speedway. Tonight’s program will includes Budweiser IMCA Mods, IMCA Stock Cars, Seymour Street Stocks, Sound Check 4 Cylinders & the IMCA Sport Mods.
